How to Include Charcoal in Your Beauty Routine
Detoxifying the body with Activated Charcoal is not a new idea, though it has recently become a trend and gained a lot of attention. From ancient times healers have used Activated Charcoal to soak up poisons and improve intestinal health.
What is Activated Charcoal?
Activated Charcoal powder is basically carbon, made by burning wood, shells, or bones. Through the heating process it expands and becomes porous, maxing out the surface area. A gram of active charcoal has the surface area of roughly 5400 square feet.
How Does Activated Charcoal Work?
It’s porous surface has a negative electric charge that attracts positively charged toxins and poisons. It works this simple.
Toxins are attracted to activated charcoal.
Detoxify and Reenergize
Today, Activated Charcoal is being used in capsule or in powder form. You can also find it as an active ingredient in many skincare products. No matter who you are you need to detoxify and activated charcoal works as a global remedy for general detoxification. Alcohol, medication, mercury, snake venom, and spider bites, just to mention a few.
Activated charcoal might be nature’s best kept secret?
Detox
Activated Charcoal is able to neutralize gas, trap toxins, metals, and other unwanted things from your digestive tract. After consulting your doctor, take the charcoal to get your system running smoothly again.
Purify Your Water and Air
Dropping a couple of sticks of charcoal into your water bottle actually helps to purify it. Activated Charcoal absorbs odors and toxins so it may work as an air purifier as well.
Wash Your Face with Activated Charcoal
Putting charcoal on your face might not seem glamorous but acts as a veritable magnet for toxins and impurities. Choose a cleanser that touts it as the main ingredient.
Get a Facial
Detox and beautify your skin and hair with Activated Charcoal. You can find it in so many skincare products, especially for acne. It has the amazing ability to vacuum out pores and lefts us with a baby-like glow. Not to mention that its long term use makes your whiteheads and blackheads disappear.
Try the following face mask, it is more than just a treat, it is a necessity!
Charcoal and Aloe Face Mask for Acne Prone Skin
Activated Charcoal powder – 1/2 tsp
Rosewater or Lavender Hydrolat (but you can use plain fresh water as well) – 1/2 tsp
Aloe vera gel – 1/2 tsp
A few drops of tea tree or lavender oil (optional)
Mix everything together in a shot glass until it forms an inky black paste. Apply on your face – don’t be surprised, your skin will be black- and after 20 minutes rinse it off with lukewarm water. It won’t stain anything permanently if you rinse it right away.

Teeth Whitening
Activated Charcoal is more effective and cheaper than a whitener toothpaste from any well known brand. The micro-porous charcoal removes all the plaque and any stain from your teeth while killing the toxins in your mouth.
Dab your toothbrush into some powder and use any tooth brushing method that is comfortable. Do not scrub hard back and forth. Small circular motions and short back and forth motions work well. Rinse, it comes off easily with water. Don’t expect pearly white smile at the first time, but after a couple of days you will be satisfied with the result.
Note, that Activated Charcoal is not what’s used for grilling. You can buy it’s medical or food grade version in pharmacies or drogerie shops.
Always use unrefined, organic, fair trade products. Take care of your health and our environment. Always take allergy test – if you have reaction avoid these ingredients.
